How to begin editing – Part Two

Just to prove that I sometimes do the targets I set myself in blog posts!

This is my terribly scientific way to begin sorting out my plot! Each of these pieces of paper is an event/revelation in my novel, tracking the love story and the arc of my protagonist. Laying it out on my bed like this is the most helpful thing I have done in the history of editing (in my editing history, anyway!). Like a puzzle, it allowed me to see the missing pieces. Now, I have four handy new chapters to add, characters to tweek and scenes to re-write to hopefully fill in these mystery gaps. So much better than the tangled mess of doom my plot was last week!

Paper – the writer’s saviour! 🙂
